A short bio

Hello and welcome, my name is Anita Pierce, and I would like to introduce myself.

Anita Pierce Art, has always been a part of my life, although I have not always been aware of it. As a child who was ill an awful lot of the time and constantly having to be in bed. Reading and the illustrations in books became an escape for me. I loved to draw and would try to copy especially beloved images. In junoir school we had a project of writing and illustraing a diary, and this became the initial start of me delving into the world of art and illustration.

Into grammar school art was put to one side, as academic subjects became more important. I always managed copious amounts of doodle in the margins though.

Life progressedand my three children became the most important part of my life, nad my art became more interior design. The children left home and began their own lives and famillies. I then embarked upon a 2yr foundation course in Art and Design, finally obtaining a Merit and a lovely diploma. Family commitments prevented me from continuing for a Degree. I continued my art by attending a local Art class, being among like minded people, and having a good tutor, really increase my creative 'spirit'.

I continue today producing specialised greetings cards for family and friends, and producing pictures in water colours and acrylics, some of which are on display here on my gallery page.

I have had an exhibition at the "Wharf" in Tavistock Devon, which produced some very useful and kind comments, especially in the style that now dictates my work. I have also had my work displayed in the Saltash college prospectus as wellas various local publications.

I work in illustration using watercolours, polychromos pencils and ink-intense. I use Goldline Bristol Board Pad, which can be rather difficult to buy, I obtain mine from Studio Arts Crafts & Graphics in Lancaster. This paper is beautifully smooth, being covered with a fine clay, and is very white and is perfect for illustration.

The water colour paper I use depends on the picture I am painting, because sometimes I need a textured heavier paper or I may use a lighter but smoother paper. I oreder most of my paints and papers from Jackson's Art Supplies. I find their range of papers very good at the moment I am using Fabriano Artisico 300 lb HP, this is a beautifully smooth but very thick paper. I have also used Whatman 140lb Not Paper. Also from Jacksons I get my water colour paints at the moment I am using Holbein as I find the pigmentation very good and the colours are brighter, in fact I source most of my art supplies from Jacksons at the moment, including brushes and canvases.

My style has developed over the years and I have been told that it is full of curves and that I have a "lovely sense of design". I enjoy painting natural things, which have no straight lines, people the angles and shapes intrigue me. More recently I am delving into the world of Faeries (this is tthe adult selling apparently) and folklore and enjoying the challenge. I hope this year to do a callender for next Christmas (2008) containing of the most widely known "Folktales and Faeries" maybe accompnied by a verse or two written by myself, another side of art that I quite like.
